Black Artists: An exploration

This project was an exploration into Black artists working in primary two dimensional media over the course of the 28 days granted to Black History Month. The goal was to offer a broad overview of black artists that counter the narratives I have often seen and been taught about - usually Black American males. As such I chose to feature majority Continental African artist living in Africa or the Diaspora and majority women who are often underrepresented in all art worlds. Additionally, I also wanted to show art that while valued in European markets also held an equal importance in their local contexts.

The artists featured, one artist a day, were:

Lorrain O Grady

Curtia Wright

Andre Baynes
